Find Us

By road:

From the south - follow the A9 past Blair Atholl and over the Drumtochter Pass. After the A889 turning for Dalwhinnie continue for another 10miles (16km) then turn left on the B9150 signposted “Newtonmore”. You will see Craigellachie House on your left after 1.5miles (2km) just beyond the junction with the A86. If you pass the “OYO Braeriach Hotel” you’ve gone too far! Turn in the gate immediately before the house and you will see the hostel behind it.

From the north - follow the A9 past Aviemore. Take the A86 through Kingussie then after another 3 miles, you will reach Newtonmore. Continue through the village and Craigellachie House is the white house on your right just before the junction with the B9150. If you pass the “Glen Hotel” you’ve gone too far.

By air:

You can fly to Inverness, Edinburgh or Glasgow, hire a car and be in Newtonmore one or two hours later or travel down to us by train.

On foot:

We’re at grid reference NN 713 989.  If you are coming down Glen Banchor either follow the wild cat trail along the River Calder and then walk 1/2km along the A86 (good verge/pavement) or follow the lane to NN 711 992 then turn R down another lane which brings you onto Main Street and we’re a few meters down the road to your right.

By rail:

Newtonmore Station is on the Inverness line and there are 4 services per day including the Caledonian sleeper. It is 10 minutes’ walk from the hostel. Kingussie station is 3 miles away and has 9 trains per day. We’ll collect you for free from Newtonmore or Kingussie. Timetables here.

By coach:

City Link services from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness are frequent. Coaches stop almost opposite our house (southbound) or 100 yards away at the Clan McPherson Museum (northbound). Timetables and travel information can be found at the Newtonmore Village Website or at Traveline Scotland.
