What you pay, what’s included, and the few rules that make a small hostel work.

Children stay at the per-person rate at all ages — every body takes a bed.
Maximum 10 people in the building at any one time (an insurance limit, not a vibe). Babies count as one of the ten. If your baby comes in their own travel cot and doesn't need a bed, no charge — we don't provide travel cots, so bring one if you need it.
What's included in the rate
A bed in a room, with bedding already made up
Use of the kitchen, sitting room, drying room and bathrooms
Hot water, heating, electricity, Wi-Fi
Tea, coffee and milk in the kitchen — help yourself
Wood-burner in the sitting room — wood for the night £10 a box, cash or BACS
Dog towel and outdoor hose on request — for muddy paws
What's not included
Breakfast (kitchen is yours; Co-op is two minutes' walk)
On-site parking (the village square is one minute's walk, free)
Laundry as a service. Trisala can sometimes do a load if you ask on the day — best to ask her in person, otherwise there's a launderette in Kingussie.
Booking and payment
Book online with your name and dates.
Cash on arrival or BACS in advance.
Whole-hostel exclusive use (sleeps 10) — email TheNewtonmoreHostel@gmail.com and we'll sort dates and price.
Check-in and check-out
Check-in: 16:00–21:30. If you'll be later than 21:30, WhatsApp us on +44 7857 301402 and we'll work it out. Try not to arrive much before 16:00 — we're still cleaning.
Check-out: by 10:00. We turn the rooms around for that evening's guests and it gets tight if check-outs run late. Want to leave bags after check-out? Yes — we have a corner in the drying room for that.
Cancellation
Single beds and small bookings
If you need to cancel, let us know at least 48 in advance. Cancellations after this point are non refundable. If you’re not going to turn up please at least let us know, so we can release the bed. We're small, so an empty bed is a real cost.
Whole-hostel bookings
Cancellation terms are agreed at the time of booking. Expect to need around a month's notice — the longer the lead time, the more flexible we can be. We'll always treat it case by case.
Weather and travel disruption
If the A9's closed or the trains aren't running, tell us, we're not robots.
Dogs
£10 per dog per stay
Maximum 2 dogs per booking. More? Ask, we usually find a way.
Dogs in the bedrooms is fine — but not on the beds
Dogs in the sitting room is fine if the other guests agree — but not on the sofa.
Never leave your dog alone in the hostel. Not for ten minutes, not for an hour. Most places are dog friendly, they should be with you at all times.
House rules
Quiet hours: 22:30–07:30. Respect others need for peace, inside and out- we are in a residential area.
Shoes off in bedrooms.
Wash up after yourself in the kitchen.
Smoking outside only, in the back garden, and use the ashtray.
No fires outside the wood-burner — risk of wildfires in summer.
On the morning you leave, strip your bed — sheets, pillowcase, duvet cover — and leave it all on the floor.
Be excellent to each other; this is a small hostel and small kindnesses go far.
